The Chef at Large is Jonathan Bean.

Originally from Framingham, Massachusetts, Jon has been cooking and traveling for 45 years.

In that time he has lived  in New England, Florida, Wisconsin, Israel, and since the end of 1989, Chicago.

He has worked front and back of the house in restaurants, nightclubs, bars, catering companies and did the cooking for his unit at an ammunition dump in Northern Israel for one especially memorable stint in reserve.

Since 1997 he has been teaching all kinds of cooking classes throughout Chicagoland, working mainly for the continuing education divisions of North Suburban school districts, as well as Oakton Community College, park districts, senior centers, and private classes for those interested in ethnic cuisines.

He has created dozens of programs tailored to the individual needs of the various libraries of the North Suburban Library System.

Since 2005 he has been leading culinary and cultural tours throughout Northern Illinois and Wisconsin.

The Chef also provides professional foodservice consultation to those opening or expanding restaurant/foodservice operations. He has been a Licensed Instructor of the Foodservice Sanitation License Exam.
